We Moved to Morocco

So….here I am today, ready to blog for the first time! In January of this year, we packed up all our stuff and moved to Morocco. Sounds crazy and cliche and it is both. We are adjusting to life here staying with family while we figure everything out.

So far, we have purchased a car, got into a car accident, and visited many “mid” but overpriced homes. Ideally, we would like something in Temara, but I am not opposed to moving outside of Casablanca. We did find a school in Rabat for Soufian—it is a french school, but in an area where a lot of foreigners live, so he may be OK there. I am not super worried about Soufian as i know kids are strong and have th capacity to learn so many new things!

What have I been doing with my time?? So many things that may seem useless but are filling my purpose: I took a pottery class with Soufian, his cousin, and his Aunt. That was so much fun and i swear to go back but haven’t yet. We have been taking walks and collecting all the natural flowers for impromptu bouquets , teas, and future uses.

This leads me to my venture into body butters and salves. I made a calendula salve with flowers i harvested for my nephew—he has eczema or psoriasis pretty bad. I was able to source some shea butter from a natural herb shop, but not beeswax. i have to find a source here, and i know there is one i just haven’t seen it. Anyway—the salve turned out great! I have been using it as a general body balm, concentrating on my problem areas. Its lovely.

slowly i am learning the language. When i say slowly, I mean slow. I can consistently count to 7. starting to understand how the numbers work when purchasing things—of course, the local Halnut owners are being so patient and helpful. Many of them know english and french, but are happy to help my Derija. Yesterday we bout some snacks that totaled Sba stash (forgive my spelling, im doing phonetic), and since i know sba was 7, i figured it was 17dirhams—and i was right!!!
